How to setup WebDAV syncing with VoodooPad

VoodooPad 4 now has the ability to sync data between computers with the use of Apple's MobileMe or any other WebDAV server. Unlike most applications that sync your data, VoodooPad syncs on a per document basis, so you can documents sync from multiple sources. This can be nice for syncing one document from your work computer to your home computer, and have another document sync between co-workers in the office.

While this flexibility makes great things possible, it also makes setting up a document for syncing a little bit more work.

Setting up your document for a first sync:

The first thing you want to do is choose the Synchronization Setup… menu item under the File menu. it will bring up a sheet that looks like this:

1) Check the Synchronize this document button to turn on syncing. If you ever want to turn it off, just uncheck this button.
2) If you are using MobileMe, check the "Use MobileMe" checkbox. This will fill in some boxes to save you time.
3) Enter your username and password, if they aren't already entered.
4) If you'd like a website accesible version of your document published in the same location, click the "Create a public iPhone compatible website with sync" button, and enter the WebDAV" url for the directory. That's it. Click the OK button, and VoodooPad"" will perform it's first sync.

Pairing a Second Document for Syncing:

1) Fill out all the fields just like we did before for setting up synchronization.
2) Click the Search button when everything is filled out. What we're doing is looking for the document we want to sync with. If everything goes ok, the drop down menu will display a list of documents you can sync with. Select the document you want to sync to, and press the OK button.

And that's it. If you'd like to change the frequency of synchronizations, open up the Preferences and under the "Advanced" options you'll see a pull down button to make synchronizations more or less frequent.

How to setup a WebDAV Server on Mac OS X

Manas Tungare has a really great tutorial on how to setup a WebDAV server on OS X 10.5. While it's geared towards using it with OmniFocus, the same principles apply for VoodooPad.
