The Hipster PDA

The Hipster PDA∞ is an awesome breakthrough in computing technology where one carries around all the info they need on nifty little 3 X 5 inch note cards. Truly this is the wave of the future. If you're looking to convert your documents into easy to read Hipster PDA sized thingies, you're going to need to follow these steps.

A Little Hackery

To start off we're going to type some stuff into Terminal.app. You'll find the application in your Applications->Utilities folder. Open it up and paste the following in:

This is going to tell VoodooPad to have a slim print margin, something we need while printing onto note cards.

Setting up a new paper size for your printer

Since we're going to need to print these on 3 X 5 note cards, we need to start out by telling our printer to expect this new size of paper.

1. Choose File->Page Setup...
2. Choose the Paper Size drop down and Manage Custom Sizes...
3. Set up a new custom size by hitting the plus button on the left near the bottom of the page
4. Double click on Untitled and type in a new name, like Hipster PDA
5. Type in the Page Size and adjust the Printer Margins
6. Press OK

Note: Some printers allow borderless printing, some do not, you might have to have leave a little room in the margins to avoid getting information cropped off

You'll now see the drop down Paper Size reads Hipster PDA. If all you need to do is print 3 X 5 note cards the rest of your life, you'll be fine with this setting, however if you need to print on regular paper again, you'll need to come back into here and set it back to US Letter or A4, and vice versa. It should look a little like this:

Printing

You can now choose File->Print and you'll be printing on a little note card.
